As an educator, I believe every student deserves a world-class education that increases opportunities, empowers critical thinking, and acknowledges our past.

That’s why I have worked diligently with my colleagues in the Senate to ensure our public schools receive the funding they desperately need to raise teachers’ pay, attract and retain well-qualified teachers, fund necessary support staff, and invest in early childhood education. These efforts are even more essential as we continue to recover from the pandemic.

Unfortunately, we now have a governor intent on defunding public education, privatizing schools, and stripping away local authority. Governor Youngkin continues to repay Donald Trump for the favor of his endorsement, and last week, he did so by appointing McKenzie Snow, former policy director for Trump Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos and Special Assistant to Trump himself, to be the Deputy Secretary of Education for K-12 in Virginia.

This hyper-partisan Trump alum will gladly steer Virginia’s future, and the future of our children down a dangerous path. Help us fight back by making a contribution to our efforts now.

McKenzie’s time in the Trump administration was spent abetting DeVos’ racial and gender identity discrimination in America’s schools, promoting the siphoning of public school funds in favor of elitist private schools, and allowing predatory for-profit schools to rip off vulnerable students and their families.

Bringing this ruinous legacy to Virginia will only harm our students and schools, and in turn, Virginia’s future. You can be sure I will continue to fight tooth and nail against all of Governor Youngkin’s continued attacks on our public schools and students.
