John,
Unbelievably, one in six election officials have experienced threats because of their job, and 77% say that they feel that threats against them have increased in recent years.1
In large part, this disturbing trend is powered by a disinformation campaign designed to undermine our elections and the people who administer them.
According to experts, these threats are contributing to an exodus of election officials as we approach the midterm elections. On top of that, state and local elections are grossly underfunded to meet new demands.
This is a crisis, and in the United States of America it’s a crisis that ought to be unacceptable.
We need Congress to pass legislation now to adequately fund election infrastructure and protect election workers, including increasing penalties for the people making the threats.
Will you take action and tell Congress to act now?
With proper financing, state and local governments could modernize and maintain voting technology, strengthen cybersecurity, and ensure adequate staffing and staff training for election officials.
Increasing criminal penalties for threats against election workers would aid in the prosecution of those who are targeting these essential workers and deter others from engaging in such harassment. It would show that Congress stands with the public servants who are the backbone of our democracy.
This can’t wait.
Tell Congress: It’s time to support U.S. elections and the workers who run them.
Your voice is critical,
