Dear friend,
Making Pennsylvania a state where everyone can live and thrive means cutting the red tape that stands in the way of a brighter future.
Last week, several of my Democratic colleagues and I joined members of the transgender and LGBTQIA+ community at the state capitol to advocate for legislation that would make the name changing process easier for transgender Pennsylvanians.
These bills include legislation that would:
- Remove the gender designation from Pennsylvania’s birth certificates.
- End legal publication requirements for name change proceedings and seal the records related to them, while creating a faster name changing process.
- Provide state grant money, through the Department of Community & Economic Development, to transgender Pennsylvanians seeking to change their names.
This package will provide a necessary overhaul to an outdated system that has failed trans Pennsylvanians for too long. I’m grateful for our friends and neighbors who shared their testimonies and helped us fight for this important step toward progress.
Though there are still important things to be done in the road to equality, I’m fighting in Harrisburg every day so that all Pennsylvanians can enjoy a high quality of life. Will you stand with me and my colleagues in this important work?

Friend, when we elect legislators who listen to our communities with open hearts and a desire to understand, we’re able to make real, meaningful change in the lives of Pennsylvanians.
I hope you’ll stand with me as I continue this fight for our LGBTQIA+ brothers, sisters, and siblings — in 2022 and beyond.
In solidarity,
Senator Lindsey Williams
