Hi John,
We're partnering with New American Leaders Action Fund to host another See Yourself Running event, just for members of the AAPI community who want to make a change.
We've got a lot of work to do: While the AAPI community is the fastest-growing racial or ethnic group in the U.S. — growing 81% between 2000 and 2019 — that growth has not translated into political power.
As of 2020, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders made up 6.1% of the population but accounted for less than 1% of all elected leaders in the U.S.
That needs to change. We can't leave the decision-making up to those who've historically held power (**cough cough** rich old white men). We need a government that reflects the diversity of its constituents, and that starts with young AAPI community members running for office.
So if you're a young progressive in the AAPI community, don't miss See Yourself Running: AAPI on May 4th at 8 p.m. ET. Whether you're planning on running, are just curious about it, or want to meet other rockstar AAPI RFS alums, we want you there — RSVP today.
It can be hard to even THINK about running when there are so few people in power who look like you. That's what our See Yourself Running events are all about.
These events aren't just for folks who already know they want to run — they're for folks who think they maybe will run one day or folks who just want to know what it's like. And we'll be joined by other AAPI candidates who've been there to answer all your burning questions.
The first step to making a difference is showing up. Join Run for Something and New American Leaders Action Fund for See Yourself Running: AAPI on May 4th at 8 p.m. ET.
Running for office can be intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. Run for Something is here to help you, and together, we're going to secure long-term, sustainable power.
See you there,
Run for Something
