We’re proud to share this news with you: Moms Demand Action recognized Lizzie as a Gun Sense Candidate.

This distinction once again recognizes Lizzie’s efforts in Congress advocating for stronger gun-safety policies and preventing gun violence in our communities.
Just last week, Lizzie asked the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for clear guidance on illegal machine gun conversion devices known as auto sears, weapons that can fire at a rate of up to 1,200 bullets per minute, making shootings even more dangerous and deadly. At the beginning of the year, a gunman shot three Houston police officers using an auto sear that converted the shooter’s semiautomatic pistol into an automatic weapon. The number of auto sears seized by law enforcement quintupled between 2020 and 2021.
Lizzie’s leadership builds on the Biden Administration’s efforts to address the gun violence epidemic in our country. Earlier this month, President Biden issued six executive orders to stop the sale of ghost guns and regulate another type of gun conversion device called stabilizing braces. President Biden’s orders will also encourage red flag laws that keep guns out of dangerous people’s hands, strengthen studies on gun trafficking, and increase investments in community violence intervention programs.
With the vast majority of Americans supporting common-sense gun-safety legislation, the time for action on gun violence is now.
Last week, Lizzie also joined her colleagues from Texas in another important letter: responding to Governor Greg Abbott’s political stunt at the Texas border that disrupted supply chains and left shelves empty across Texas and the country. Times are too difficult and challenges are too serious for political games like this one — that’s why we are so glad to have Lizzie in Congress.
Also a quick reminder: There’s just one week left to register to vote in the upcoming Texas runoff election! If you know someone who isn’t yet registered, the last day to register is April 25. Early voting begins May 16, and the runoff is May 24. Elections matter — and there are really important elections on the runoff ballot that will have huge implications for the future of our state and our country.
