Dear John,
Every time I sit down and talk to Coach Kennedy, I am deeply humbled.
I’m humbled because it cost him everything to quietly pray by himself on the 50-yard line, and yet he did it anyway.
Despite all the legal threats and attempts by the school’s lawyers to diminish and hide his faith, Coach has shown steady, unwavering resolve in his commitment to God.
No matter if his team won or lost, his faith led him to kneel and give God the glory.
Help Coach Kennedy get back to the 50-yard line »
Honestly John, when Coach took a knee in prayer after games, he just wanted to honor a promise he made to God years ago and pray for the high school football players that he loved.
And the irony in all of this? He was allowed to talk to his players, talk to other coaches on the field, even talk to friends in the stands—but he was fired for talking to God.
This is deeply troubling for me to see.
In my over 30 years of experience, I have never witnessed a more dangerous ruling for teachers and coaches’ religious freedom than this one: a high school football coach banned from taking a knee in quiet prayer just because students could see him.
Let Coach Kennedy know that you are standing with him »
Coach knows that standing up for the right to pray in school while on the clock is not just important for his own job. The right of every teacher, coach and school employee to pray at work is in jeopardy.
If a football coach can be fired for praying just because students can see him, then any school employee could potentially be fired for:
- Bowing their head in prayer in the lunchroom
- Wearing a crucifix in the classroom
- Wearing a yarmulke in the schoolhouse
- And any other visible religious activity or symbols you could think of
That’s why we need to stand up for Coach, and the millions of school employees whose jobs are threatened by anti-religious hostility.
We are less than a week away from the argument at the Supreme Court. Will you take a knee in prayer for Coach Kennedy and our legal team? Your powerful prayers and financial support are crucial as we prepare for this final battle.
And because there’s so much at stake for millions of Americans, a small group of donors has generously come forward with a $500,000 Challenge Grant that multiplies the impact of your gift when you give by April 25th.
Together, we can win for Coach Kennedy—and for the religious freedom of all Americans.
Yes! I am standing with Coach Kennedy today »
Gratefully,
Kelly
