This week is National Freelance Business Week, a week that recognizes the spirit of those who leave a J-O-B with the dream of freedom, better income, and the ability to control their own careers and lives. 🙌

Freelancers and independent contractors are the backbone of our nation. Today, about 1 in 5 jobs in America is held by an independent contractor, and that proportion is expected to grow.

9-to-5 models of work that require workers to clock in, be strapped to a desk or station for eight hours, and head home frustrated and exhausted, are OUTDATED. But the fight isn’t over yet.

Despite numerous setbacks, like the recent rejection of the president’s Labor Department nominee, the Left’s efforts to restrict worker freedom and flexibility continue. Democrats passed the job-destroying AB5 bill in California, and they are determined to get the PRO Act through Congress, which will do what AB5 did to California to the entire nation.

These laws would hurt freelancers like Patrick Turnbull ([link removed]) , a retired landscape contractor from Sunland, California, who has worked independently as Santa Claus for the past 21 years.

They are particularly harmful to women, like florist and breast cancer survivor Monica Wyman ([link removed]) , who represent the majority of workers in certain gig sectors. Wyman relied on freelancers for seasonal work but was forced to close her business.
