Hi Friend,
Last year, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick presided over one of the worst legislative sessions in recent memory -- unleashing abortion bounty hunters, Jim Crow-era voter suppression, and permitless carry onto our state.
When I thought he couldn't possibly stoop any lower, Patrick announced his agenda for the next legislative session. While Texans have been fighting for Medicaid expansion, a living wage, and a reliable electric grid, Patrick has prioritized banning books, censoring teachers, and targeting public university curriculums. But the most sickening announcement to come from Patrick recently was his plan to bring Florida's "Don't Say Gay" bill to Texas.
Texas Republicans are already driving trans kids and their families out of our state. Now they want to take away the safe space that teachers have created in their classrooms for LGBTQIA+ kids to feel loved and accepted for who they are. If this disgusting legislation came to our state, it would not only prohibit teachers from discussing LGBTQIA+ topics in the classroom, but it would give parents the right to sue school districts for teaching material they deem to be “inappropriate”.
Friend, there’s absolutely nothing inappropriate about making sure every child feels safe and represented in the classroom. It’s no wonder that teachers are leaving the profession in droves -- because they care about our children and it’s clear that all Texas Republicans care about is getting re-elected.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t stand the thought of another legislative session with Dan Patrick at the helm. But Friend, we have the power to fire him this November and end his reign of terror over our state. So will you chip in $7 right now to power our fight to fire disgraced Dan?
Please consider making this a monthly contribution. If you've saved payment info with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
The only way our kids will feel safe to be their authentic selves is if we show them that being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community is something to celebrate, not hide.
But that can only happen if we fire Dan and replace him with someone who has compassion for Texas children -- someone who understands the real issues that Texans are facing.
In solidarity,
Darcy Caballero
