Indigenous peoples are fighting to keep coal in the ground
Dear Jack,
Right now Adivasi (Indigenous) peoples in India are fighting for their land and lives — and they urgently need your help.

Adivasi communities have launched protests, blockades and legal battles against destructive coal mines that are set to be opened on their land. These mines would mean the irreversible annihilation of Adivasi peoples' sacred and ancestral forests, which would be cleared for access to coalfields underneath.

This isn’t the first time Adivasi peoples have had to face off against mining corporations. In 2014, the Dongria Kondh successfully stopped British mining giant Vedanta Resources from destroying their sacred hills in eastern India. With your help, we galvanized a global movement supporting the Dongria’s struggle and their land is still safe today.

We can help Adivasi communities win against mining again — but we can’t do it without you.

This is not just the Adivasi peoples' fight. India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, plans to increase coal mining to one billion tonnes per year. Coal is the largest source of carbon dioxide emissions and the dirtiest form of fuel, and this massive increase in coal mining could have devastating impacts on the global climate crisis.

Adivasi communities are putting their lives on the line as they defend their lands against corporations, the government, police and skewed court systems. Their resistance has been met with extreme violence, including arrests, physical and sexual assaults, and murder.

This is your chance to stand with Adivasi peoples, and Indigenous peoples around the world — for their future, and for yours.

We are immensely grateful for all your past support of our vital work. To help us continue fighting this urgent crisis, would you consider setting up a regular gift?
