Global Citizen,
I’ve dedicated my career to the global fight against fossil fuels. But with Russia's war on Ukraine, my efforts have never been as urgent.
As I write this email, my 92-year old grandmother is taking shelter from Russian bombs in the exact same place she hid from Nazi airstrikes in World War II. She’s being forced to relive an unthinkable horror – one that was made possible by the world’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels. It’s time to break the cycle of fossil-fueled wars. In recent weeks, various countries have announced plans to stop importing Russian energy, but more has to be done – and much, much sooner. To end this war and prevent the next fossil-fueled conflict, we need countries to end their dependence on dirty energy all together.
Right now, the world has a profound opportunity to divest from bloody fossil fuels and invest instead in renewables. A new path forward is possible – one that safeguards our climate and prevents conflict.
In solidarity,
Kostiantyn Krynytskyi – @KKrynytskyi Activist & Energy Department Head, Ecoaction NGO
