Do you know who scares Ohio’s corrupt statehouse leaders more than anything?

You.

They are scared to death of democracy ... of facing voters in a real contest, and where they can be held accountable.

And so far they’ve done a good job of sidestepping and avoiding voters. They cooked up such gerrymandered, lopsided districts that in 2020, 19 statehouse districts didn’t even have a Democratic nominee. Another 27 nominees ran, but limped along because they were considered such long-shot races they couldn’t get enough support.

5,367,872 Ohioans live in those 46 districts.

That’s almost half of our state’s population.

And to be clear, the current gerrymandering fight isn’t whether Republicans will have a majority in the Ohio statehouse. Even the maps proposed by Democrats don’t take their majority away.

The Republicans are fighting so hard because they don’t want a single member of their majority to face a competitive district.

No doubt that Republicans are the ones pushing for a “competitive autocracy” – where their victory is preordained by a system that’s rigged mightily in their favor.

But there’s so much more we can do to fight back.

That’s the kind of work I’ve been focused on over the last few months – and I’m excited to announce a new project in Ohio. At last, we’ll have an easy way for everyone to pitch in and make sure every Democratic candidate for our statehouse has a chance … and every voter has a choice, wherever they live.

On Thursday and Friday I’ll be hosting town halls to talk about it, and how you can stay involved. We’ll also have some surprise special guests join us.

I hope you can make it.

Onward,
David
