This week at CBPP, we focused on the federal budget and taxes, health, and the economy.
* On the federal budget and taxes, Paul N. Van de Water and Richard Kogan detailed ([link removed]) why a proposal from Senator Rob Portman for automatic continuing resolutions is not a good solution for government shutdowns. Samantha Jacoby explained ([link removed]) how two companion bills aim to curb opportunity zone abuses. Jacoby also noted ([link removed]) that policymakers should ensure that pass-throughs pay more of the taxes they owe. We updated ([link removed]) our backgrounder on federal tax expenditures.

* On health, Jessica Schubel emphasized ([link removed]) that Medicaid improper payment rates don’t measure ineligible enrollees, fraud, or abuse. Kyle Hayes cited ([link removed]) broad opposition to a Trump Administration proposal to lower the poverty line. We updated ([link removed]) our frequently asked questions about Medicaid.

* On the economy, Jared Bernstein testified ([link removed]) on deficits and debt in contemporary U.S. fiscal policy. We also updated ([link removed]) our backgrounder on how many weeks of unemployment compensation are available.
