CEP Welcomes Dr. Gerhard Conrad To Advisory Board

Dr. Conrad Is An Intelligence Advisor for the Munich Security Conference, Former Director of EU INTCEN, And Former Senior Member Of The German Federal Intelligence Service (BND)

 

(New York, N.Y.) – The Counter Extremism Project (CEP) today announced Dr. Gerhard Conrad, former director of the European Union Intelligence Analysis and Situation Centre (EU INTCEN) at the European External Action Service (EEAS), has joined its Advisory Board. Earlier in his career, he served as a senior member of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) and mediator between Israel and Hezbollah and Israel and Hamas for U.N. Secretary Generals Secretary-Generals Kofi Annan and Ban Ki-moon.

 

“Dr. Conrad’s impressive background and experience in German intelligence work will be a critical asset as we continue to combat extremist ideologies everywhere,” said CEP CEO Ambassador Mark D. Wallace. “It is an honor for CEP to work with someone of Dr. Conrad’s stature.”

 

CEP Executive Director David Ibsen welcomed Dr. Conrad as a leader with extensive experience in European intelligence services. “Rolling back the rise of extremism and terrorism throughout the world requires the counsel of experts like Dr. Conrad who can identify and understand how to confront evolving threats. I am thrilled that he has chosen to join CEP.”

In addition to his position on CEP’s Advisory Board, Dr. Conrad serves as a board member of the Forum Intelligence Services in Germany and an Intelligence Advisor to the Munich Security Conference. He instructs members of German intelligence and security services within the Master’s Program for Intelligence and Security Studies (MISS) at the Federal University for Administrative Science in Berlin and engages as visiting professor with King’s College, London, and Sciences Po, Paris.

 

Dr. Conrad holds a PhD in Oriental Studies, International Politics, and International Law from Bonn University.
