Recently we told you about Lakot and her courage in the face of violence, intimidation and a court case that dragged on for years. She was determined to create a safe home for her children’s future. Compassionate IJM supporters like you made it possible for our attorneys to counsel and protect Lakot until she regained full control of her land.
Like you, Lakot loves to help others. Even before her case was resolved, she became a community advocate in her village and a constant support to anyone in trouble. “I am involved in gender-based violence advocacy,” she says. “I go to families and try to counsel them to help resolve their conflict.
I hope I will be a road sign for those in need to begin the process of fighting injustice.”
Lakot has also shown remarkable forgiveness toward her neighbor. “My faith has groomed me to love people regardless of who they are,” she says. “My neighbor lost his step-mum, and they were mourning. I went to mourn with them without casting stones at them. I love people because I believe in unity and that you as an individual can achieve so much.”
John, your decision to support IJM does so much—and as we join together, we can achieve even more. If you haven’t made a gift yet this month, will you support the work of rescue, and protect more women in their fight for justice by giving now?
