Friend,

It’s incredibly encouraging to see the war on drugs – but more importantly, the need for reform – being seriously addressed by presidential candidates. In recent debates, they’ve discussed solutions to the overdose crisis, advocated for equitable marijuana legalization and criminal justice reform and even decriminalizing drug use and possession.

The conversation continues today with the Iowa Harm Reduction Coalition (IHRC) hosting Julián Castro, as the second candidate in their Overdose Crisis in America: 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate Forum on Drug Policy: [link removed]

Tune into the livestream today, November 23, from 1:30-2:45pm CST, to listen to this important conversation: [link removed]

This series, which has invited all candidates to participate, is the first of its kind to engage presidential candidates around the topic of drug policy. The programming comes at a critical time when the U.S. is seeing a record number of overdose deaths and many harm reduction efforts have remained unnecessarily stalled due to federal policies.

The Drug Policy Alliance is proud to be a sponsor of these forums along with the Harm Reduction Coalition and AIDS United. Please watch the livestream here [link removed] from 1:30-2:45pm CST today.

You can also check out IHRC’s full ‘2020 Democratic Presidential Candidate Tracker’ [link removed] to see where each candidate stands on public health and drug policy.

Everything we’re fighting for has finally taken center stage thanks to supporters like you across the country. Stay tuned for information about the next part of this crucial forum series.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Polito
