Thanks to the passage of HB 1302, we are returning more than $1 billion to hardworking Georgians. Georgia income taxpayers will receive one-time tax refunds of $250 for single filers, $375 for single filers with dependents, and $500 for joint filers.
Because we were the first state in the country to reopen and our common-sense leadership, Georgia emerged from the pandemic in a strong financial position.
And when government takes in more than it needs, I believe those dollars should be returned to the taxpayer—because that is your money, not the government’s!

I also signed HB 1437 into law, to simplify our tax code and ultimately implement a flat state income tax rate of 4.99%, so that hardworking Georgians can keep more of their hard-earned money. This amounts to an additional $1 billion tax cut for taxpayers.

We also delivered immediate relief at the pump for Georgia families and businesses by suspending the state gas tax through the end of May. HB 304 is saving you about 30 cents per gallon—we have already seen gas prices in Georgia decrease about 50 cents in the last month!

And today, by signing HB 1064 into law, I am delivering on my 2018 campaign promise to exempt military retirement income from our state’s income tax. This bill serves as a thank you to our heroic veterans for their service and will help build Georgia’s workforce.
