If you’re from the Golden State, you won’t be surprised to hear that gas
prices in California are the highest in the country.

With fossil fuel companies price gouging at the pump, Big Oil is raking in
record-breaking profits while California residents suffer the expense.
Putin's war of aggression in Ukraine also demonstrates how vulnerable the
US and our European allies are when we rely on despots and dictators for
our energy needs.

California Republicans are leading protests and — believe it or not —
voter registration efforts at gas stations while falsely accusing
President Biden of the increases in gas prices. Meanwhile, my Republican
colleagues in Congress are accepting big checks from fossil fuel
executives and prioritizing corporate profits over their constituents.

These high gas prices don’t make the case for more of a reliance on fossil
fuels and petro-dictatorships, but less. And the only way to permanently
deprive Putin of the money to make war is by devaluing his only resource —
oil and gas.

And here’s the other uncomfortable truth: The United Nations’
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recently published a
report outlining the dire state of the planet and the urgency of reducing
emissions and calling on governments to address the impending climate
disaster facing our planet.

We’re not talking about a matter of decades. We’ve got a couple of years —
just the next few elections — to maintain and build a Democratic majority
that will act on climate.

John, we need to pass legislation this year to invest in clean
renewable energy so we can provide relief for consumers and protect the
planet, and no matter what, we cannot lose the House or Senate.
