Dear John,

It’s Tax Day, and with that in mind, I wanted to reach out with some good news. Last month in response to my questioning, the IRS Commissioner committed to clearing the backlog of unprocessed tax returns by the end of the year.

That means that the more than 20 million working families and small businesses who are waiting on their tax refunds finally have a timeline for when they will see their returns.

Although this may not be a high profile issue, I know that it is one that matters a lot to the families and small businesses that are desperately waiting for the IRS to act. That’s why I’m so proud to be a leader on oversight of the IRS and why I’m so encouraged by the Commissioner’s announcement.

Additionally, Senator Warren and I led a letter calling out the IRS for the disproportionate number of audits on low-income families. It's time that the IRS focuses on billionaire tax cheats, not on targeting our communities.

I’m proud to deliver real results — regardless of whether or not they hit the news. But if I’m going to be able to continue this work, I need your help. Can I count on you to chip in to my re-election campaign today so I can continue to advocate for real working families in Congress?
There is still a lot of work to do to build a tax system that works for working families — not billionaires. But these are important steps, and I won’t stop here. I’ll keep putting in the work for the issues that make a difference for our communities.

Thanks,
Judy
