It’s never been more clear that our future depends on expanding the reach of clean energy.

Right now, we’re living under the existential threat of climate change and feeling pain at the pump thanks to soaring gas prices. Affordable, accessible clean energy is key to solving these pressing issues.

As governor, Roy Cooper has prioritized protecting our environment by expanding the clean energy economy — and creating good-paying jobs at the same time. Just last month, he was proud to announce that a new electric vehicle assembly plant will soon create 7,500 jobs in our state and to unveil the very first electric school bus in North Carolina, purchased by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians using an award from the NC Department of Environmental Quality.

A recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report reemphasized that it’s “now or never” to protect our planet against the worst effects of climate change. Unfortunately, we’re still failing to make the changes necessary to limit global warming.

First and foremost, we must end our dependence on burning fossil fuels — and releasing dangerous levels of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. If we are to succeed, we need to develop alternative energy sources immediately.
