On this month’s broadcast, we will be asking Ted Kyle, RPh, MBA, “Is obesity a bad word?” To answer this question, we will need to define the word obesity, examine what it is and what it isn’t, dissect the roots and discuss how it’s used today. HEALTHYWOMEN TO HOST A LIVE Q&A ON FACEBOOK

HealthyWomen will host a live Q&A on their Facebook channel on Wednesday, April 20th at 6 p.m. ET. The event will feature OAC members sharing their personal experiences living with obesity. Tune in LIVE on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

 

OAC PRESIDENT CALLS ON PHYSICIANS TO STOP THE STIGMA OF WEIGHT BIAS

OAC President and CEO Joe Nadglowski wrote an article saying physicians have a role is stamping out weight bias. Weight bias is toxic, harmful and extremely widespread. The first step to overcome weight bias is to acknowledge it exists in our world today. By creating an inclusive environment, we can build a better world free of weight bias. Mary Grisaffi has been part of the OAC since 2012, and in this time, we’ve watched her become an incredible advocate for people with obesity. Not only does Mary represent those of our members who have sought surgery, but she leaves an impact on everyone she meets with her vulnerability and passion. Mary fights to put a stop to weight bias, speaks up for people living with obesity and pours kind words into everyone she meets. CLICK HERE to read Mary's interview with the OAC.

“People may not even know they’re biased against people with obesity, people of size, but are making decisions based on it.”

OAC Chair and recently retired attorney for the U.S. Department of Labor, Patricia Nece, was featured in an article about weight discrimination in the workplace. Weight-based discrimination still costs some Americans their jobs because om most states there are no clear laws against it. She says, “Employers reflect society. HEALTHYWOMEN TO LAUNCH BEYOND THE BODY VIDEO SERIES

HealthyWomen will launch their Beyond the Body video series featuring six OAC members and their journeys living with obesity. HealthyWomen aims to educate women between ages 35 to 64 to make informed health choices by providing fact-based, expert-sourced content and creative evidence-based programming.
