It’s National Volunteer Week and Hunger Free America is celebrating all of our amazing volunteers who work with us to end hunger.

Meet super volunteer Alia.

Alia joined HFA as a virtual volunteer on our National Hunger Hotline in April 2020, at the start of the pandemic. As a volunteer, Alia connects callers who are food insecure with emergency food providers, government assistance programs, and social services in their home communities.

Alia loves that her volunteer work allows her to make a real difference in the lives of people facing food insecurity. Speaking with hungry families from across the country has changed the way she thinks about hunger and the people who face it.

"It's a gift to get to help people who are food insecure to familiarize themselves with the resources in their community.”

And although she is a busy student at Harvard University, Alia never misses a volunteer shift with HFA! Alia will be going to medical school next year, and she knows her volunteer experience with HFA will make her a more effective and empathetic doctor.

We are so grateful to Alia and to all our volunteer anti-hunger champions.

Please join with Alia in the fight against hunger! You can fuel our work by signing up to be a volunteer or by making a donation to help fund the National Hunger Hotline and our other anti-hunger programs.
