MICHIGAN COALITION FOR RESPONSIBLE GUN OWNERS "Promoting safe use and ownership of firearms through education, litigation, and legislation." MONDAY E'NEWS MCRGO-PAC Candidate Rating Process MCRGO-PAC provides the following information about upcoming 2022 activities to its members, candidates, and the general public in the interest of transparency. MCRGO-PAC runs an objective primary ratings process. Ratings and endorsements are made with no preference shown for political affiliation. No direct bias is given to incumbents over their challengers although incumbents with a clear pro-gun or anti-gun legislative history have their ratings adjusted as a result of that history. MCRGO-PAC provides candidate ratings for Michigan legislative elections. MCRGO-PAC does not rate or endorse for local elections, judicial elections, or federal elections. MCRGO-PAC may endorse candidates for statewide races for the November general election. MCRGO-PAC for 2022 consists of MCRGO Instructor Stephen Alexander (Democratic), MCRGO Director Art Joslin (Republican), and MCRGO Instructor Matt Jackson (Independent). MCRGO-PAC may not be lobbied by candidates, the general public, members, or board directors. Candidates running for the August 2022 Michigan legislative primary election are mailed the survey shown HERE. Surveys are sent in late April and have a due date of Monday, June 27, 2022. MCRGO will continue to accept surveys past the due date and provide updated ratings on-line. Surveys are not accepted after the primary in order to prevent candidates from shifting their positions for electoral advantage between their partisan primary and the general election. There are no outright endorsements in the primary election. Instead, candidates are rated based on their responses to the survey. The questions on the survey measure the candidate's general philosophical support for the Second Amendment and Article 1, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution as well as current firearms legislation. For each question answered incorrectly, the candidate is marked down one letter grade. A perfect score of 10/10 is an A rating, a 9/10 is a B rating, etc. Any score of 6/10 or less results in a F rating. To ensure the candidate is reading and understanding the questions, not all correct responses are Yes answers. The survey is kept as short and simple as possible to increase the return rate. In 2020, roughly 1/3 of candidates returned a survey. As one would expected, candidates favoring gun control and candidates running in the primary but not seriously pursuing election tend not to respond. MCRGO-PAC does not make financial contributions to candidates or engage in mailings or emails in support of individual candidates. Candidate ratings for the primary election will be published online at the beginning of July to assist early voters. They will also appear in the Summer 2022 On Target newsletter published in mid-July. MCRGO-PAC will use these ratings as a base in making endorsements for the general election with a preference given to proven pro-gun incumbents. Endorsements for the Michigan Legislature will be available by Labor Day. Primary election ratings can be found on-line after July 5, 2022 at: [link removed] MCRGO | PO Box 14014, Lansing, MI 48901 Unsubscribe [email protected] Update Profile | Constant Contact Data Notice Sent by [email protected] powered by Try email marketing for free today!
