John,
Earlier this month, as part of our integral work with candidates, I attended an event with Stacey Abrams and asked her a question about how to combat apathy among voters.
Her answer was profound. She said we shouldn't frame voter disengagement as apathy because when we do that it puts the onus on the voters themselves and makes it seem like they don't care about voting but in all actuality, it’s really about the voters distrusting the system.
Our job is to help potential voters trust that together we can build a system that is going to work so their voices will be heard. It’s our job to inspire these voters and speak to them in ways that will help them connect their lives to the issues.
The truth is, at DFA we do spend that kind of time, energy, and investment on voters that most organizations don’t traditionally talk to because we know that when we do that, we will increase voter turnout and win.
It takes an enormous amount of resources to fuel these efforts to make sure we have deep conversations with every single voter. Will you rush a donation to fund this critical work?

DFA members have already done so much to protect our democracy and support our work. We would not be where we are today without the support of generous people like you in the progressive movement.
We are relentlessly working to elect a new generation of leaders committed to an inclusive, progressive vision for the United States.
The future of the Democratic Party lies with the candidates, campaigns, and voters of the New American Majority leading the fight for multi-racial democracy.
Can you become a DFA Defender today to help build the movement, month-by-month?
Yes, I can chip in monthly.
No, I'm sorry, I can't chip in monthly quite yet -- but I can make a one-time contribution.
Thank you for powering the fight for a better America every day.
