John,

I don't need to tell you this, but we are in the midst of not just climate change, but a real ( not fake!) climate crisis.

Yet, polluters and their allies want us to ignore science.

The President and federal agency leaders he personally selected want to roll back auto emissions protections. Trump's new plan is audacious and awful: roll back California's landmark clean air and emissions protections. For decades, California's ambitious car emissions rules have set the standard for the nation, resulting in more fuel-efficient vehicles with lower carbon emissions nationwide. Oregon, along with many other states, has adopted the California standards because, to put it simply, we choose clean over dirty air!

That's why Oregon has joined 22 other states in a historic lawsuit against the Trump administration: because the administration has it all wrong.

Even aside from the administration choosing to abandon its responsibilities, states have the right to govern themselves. Not only is this pro-pollution, anti-climate change action nonsensical, it's illegal.

I've cosponsored a petition so that you can show your support for the progress we've made with rigorous emissions standards. Sign the petition and tell Trump: stop attacking auto emissions standards.

Rolling back vehicle emission standards will cause a serious increase in carbon emissions in our atmosphere, which will:
* Accelerate the climate crisis;
* Increase the risk of chronic illness, such as cardiovascular disease;
* Introduce more pollutants and carcinogens to the air we breathe;
* Undermine the fuel economy standard, costing consumers billions of dollars.

Sign the petition and tell Trump: stop attacking auto emissions standards.

Together, we'll fight this terrible injustice. See you in court, Mr. President!

Ellen
