Our community speaks over 167 different languages and has thriving communities from all over the globe with 60% of our district being born in another country. There are thriving Hispanic communities, an inclusive and proud LGBTQ+ community, and groups from India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Korea, and anywhere else you could imagine. It’s the picturesque landscape of American diversity.
This week many of our neighbors have been and will be celebrating holidays with their families and friends - Easter, Passover, Ramadan, Bengali New Year, and Vaisakhi. With so much to celebrate and Spring weather finally making an appearance, I wanted to wish you a Happy Holiday, however, and whatever you may be celebrating.
Additionally, our campaign will be providing Iftar meals and grocery distribution next week for our neighbors who are breaking their fast on Tuesday, 4/19 (grocery distribution), and Tuesday, 4/26 (to-go Iftar meals) at Masjid Dar Al-Dawah 35-13 23rd Ave in Astoria.
Your cultures, languages, foods, and customs are what make our district so unique, and I am honored to represent you all in the State Senate.
