Dear Friend,

When I crossed the Atlantic to join the Mississippi Center for Public Policy, I did so because I wanted to help achieve fundamental change.

During the legislative session that just ended, we certainly saw some big wins - as I discussed in this interview with Y’All Politics HERE ([link removed]) : ([link removed])
* A law to combat Critical Race Theory:

This was our number one goal, and we accomplished it. The model bill we published just before the start of the legislative session is now law. It is no longer legal to use public money to compel students to believe that one group of Americans are inherently superior or inferior to other Americans.

For years, radical progressives have imposed their agenda. Not any longer. Other states have now adopted the approach that we have taken here, following our example.

* The largest tax cut in Mississippi’s history

Our second goal for this legislative session was to begin to eliminate the state income tax. Governor Tate Reeves signed into law the largest cut in tax in Mississippi’s history. It might not be full elimination, but the moral case for elimination has been won.
This tax cut is not merely a reduction in the state income tax. It is a tipping point for our state.

For as long as anyone can remember, Mississippi’s political establishment has been in the business of soliciting handouts from Washington. If federal subsidies generated wealth, Mississippi would be the richest state in the Union. But we aren’t.

Instead, Mississippi is one of the poorest states in America. Welfare dependency for a state is like welfare dependency for a household or family. Rather than alleviate poverty, it perpetuates it.

The cut in state income tax reflects a change in thinking. Instead of merely looking to Washington to provide handouts, our state leadership is seeking to make our state more entrepreneurial and competitive.

Our wins in the 2022 session convince me that big change is possible, but that change only happens when it is grounded firmly in conservative principles and when we take our message of change to a mass audience. That is exactly what we have been doing.

As Mississippi’s free market think tank, we do more than just have ideas. We make change happen by influencing how people throughout our state think. We have carefully and painstakingly built up a mass audience:
* Over 85,000 Mississippians subscribe to our weekly newsletter,
* Each week we are capable of reaching almost a quarter of a million Americans.

No other conservative organization in our state has the audience or the reach that we now have from Corinth to the Coast. I also travel in person across the state to make the case for liberty – like I did last week when I was in Vicksburg.

What makes American exceptional?

What we do as Mississippi’s conservative think tank is only possible because of your support.

Thank you - and have a wonderful Easter!

Ps. I have put down roots in my new home in Mississippi. Literally. Here is my vegetable patch – tomatoes and potatoes coming along nicely ..…
