Here’s an ele-fantastic way to celebrate Save the Elephant Day ( [link removed] ) with Born Free!

At the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain, Born Free is hard at work protecting elephants in Amboseli National Park.

Kenya is home to the world-famous EB elephant family – a successful herd with dozens of members. These include Edwina, grand-daughter to Echo, the matriarch star of BBC’s popular Echo of the Elephant TV series.

Born in 1982, Edwina has had eight calves, including a little girl born last year. And, thanks to her older daughters, she is also a grandmother six times over. What a remarkable female!

The family includes eight-year-old Ewok, whose mother Emily Kate sadly died in 2017. “He’s done well for an orphan, but then he belongs to a very caring family,” explains Dr Cynthia Moss, who has monitored Amboseli’s elephants for 50 years.
