Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

On *Monday,*Lt. Governor Jon Husted spoke to the Ohio Recorders Associations Winter Conference [ [link removed] ]. He encouraged attendees to look within their own offices and throughout county government to find ways they can contribute to offering better services at a lower cost. The Lt. Governor offered his own role as Director of InnovateOhio as an example of how government can work more efficiently to better serve its customers.

On *Tuesday*, Governor Mike DeWine met with Caroline Williams, Miss Ohio. They discussed her passion forensuring all Ohioans know how to use cell phones properly in order to quickly connect with emergency services.

Also on*Tuesday*, Lt. Governor Husted helped kick off Minority Business Advocacy Day at the Statehouse. He attended a press conference alongside leadership from the Stark County Minority Business Association to commend them on their work to help improve their members' connections to drive capital into their businesses and communities. The Stark County Minority Business Association recently joined the London Stock Exchange ELITE Program, which helps growing businesses access capital. The Lt. Governor traveled to London, England to secure Cleveland, Ohio as the ELITE Programs first-ever headquarters in the Americas [ [link removed] ].

On *Wednesday*, Governor DeWine encouraged Ohioans to consider adoption [ [link removed] ]. November is National Adoption Month and all kids deserve a safe and loving home.

Also on*Wednesday*, Lt. Governor Husted joined Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague to announce a collaboration to unite the Treasurers Ohio Checkbook and the OBM Interactive Budget [ [link removed] ]. The new partnership will eliminate duplication of the two systems, improve transparency for the media and public, and save taxpayers over $900,000 every year [ [link removed] ].

On *Thursday*,Governor DeWine announced the launch of a statewide virtual driver assessment program that will better equip Ohios new drivers with critical skills to safely navigate the roads.

Governor DeWines Ohio Ready, Test, Drive! program will install 400 customized virtual driving assessment systems in Ohios 57 driver examination locations, as well as in many of Ohios driver training schools. The free virtual driving systems will scientifically examine student driver preparedness and help Ohio make data-driven improvements to its overall drivers education curriculum.

Also on *Thursday*, the Ohio Department of Natural Resourcesunveiled several wetland projects aimed at improving water quality in Lake Erie and throughout Ohio as part of the Governor'sH2Ohio initiative [ [link removed] ].The wetland projects, planned throughout the Maumee River Watershed and elsewhere, are part of a plan to reduce harmful algal blooms and ensure safe, clean water for all Ohioans.

On *Friday*, Lt. Governor Husted announced that InnovateOhio and the Office of Budget and Management (OBM) have deployed a new tool together that will automate the process of searching for duplicate payments. Occasionally, billing duplication or administrative errors may cause the state to double-pay for services. The new InnovateOhio tool will reduce human error and catch these payments more quickly. The tool has already identified over $100,000 in erroneous payments [ [link removed] ] that the state will now work to recover.
