As one of the country’s largest and oldest farm animal sanctuaries, we have rescued countless turkeys over the past three decades. At our New York and California shelters, we rehabilitate them with nutritious food, shelter, medical care, and love.

Pamela “The Lover”

Pamela came from a factory farm, where she was crammed in with thousands of other birds. Turkeys are natural explorers and enjoy dust-bathing and soaking up the sun; on industrial farms, they barely have the space to stretch their wings. Pamela was also desnooded and debeaked—painful procedures done to prevent fighting, and to preserve the birds’ flesh for human consumption.

Once slated to become someone’s Thanksgiving meal, Pamela now enjoys roaming her pasture at Farm Sanctuary. She is the sweetest and most affectionate member of our flock, and enjoys pets and cuddles from anyone who is willing to give them.
