BIG NEWS: We just secured a $22.5 million payment for Washington from e-cigarette giant JUUL.
Reminiscent of Big Tobacco’s marketing strategy of decades past, JUUL built an advertising plan that appealed specifically to youth. JUUL purposely pushed the sale of fruit and dessert flavored nicotine products onto teenagers using social media, while deceiving their young audience about the addictiveness of their products.
These practices resulted in skyrocketing e-cigarette use among teens – and more profits for JUUL.
JUUL must pay $22.5 million to Washington for their unlawful conduct and put an end to these unlawful practices. These resources will lead to additional health equity enforcement actions.
Now, JUUL is prohibited from most advertising on social media and responsible for corporate reforms to ensure that underage kids are prohibited from buying their products in Washington state.
I will continue enforcing laws to protect our kids and make sure companies like JUUL are held accountable. Will you donate $10 today to support me as I continue this work?
Thank you,
Bob
