The time is now for the US to reconsider its silence on Israeli human rights abuses

Dear Email,

Capping off a week's worth of raids, murders, and arrests across the West Bank, earlier this morning Israeli military invaded Al-Aqsa Mosque, firing bullets, tear gas, and sound grenades at Palestinian worshippers. Reporters and medics were also attacked, and Palestinians were prevented from receiving medical care.

The devastating invasion ended with over 400 Palestinians detained and more than 150 Palestinians wounded, including reporters and medical professionals.

Americans for Justice in Palestine (AJP Action) condemns these outrageous war crimes and calls on the Biden administration and Congress to act immediately to bring them to an end.

Following the attacks, an imposed lockdown was announced by Israel on Palestinians in the West Bank during the Passover holiday starting Friday at 4:00 P.M. until Sunday. In what’s intended to provoke tensions, extremist Jewish groups are calling on Israelis to sacrifice animals on the holy grounds and in the Aqsa Mosque during Passover.

Israel has made it an annual tradition to take advantage of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, escalating its colonial violence over a largely fasting population in order to maintain its supremacy over every aspect of Palestinian life. These escalations result in Israeli occupation forces taking Palestinian life without any form of accountability.

As Americans, we must take action and more importantly, be consistent in our tackling of human rights abuses, occupation, and oppression. Russia’s recent invasion of Ukraine received a US-led international condemnation, with the Biden administration sending hundreds of millions of dollars of aid to Ukraine. In fact, just last week, Biden called Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “genocide.” For months, Ukrainians were applauded for their resistance and self-defense.

AJP Action calls on the Biden administration and Congress at large to apply these same principles to the Palestinian people. Otherwise, it will be clear as day that for some victims of occupation, the US promotes the right to self-defense and resisting occupation while other victims are dehumanized and urged to show restraint for the sake of security.

Israel's brutal military occupation and consistent violence against Palestinians is, in part, the product of US complicity and enablement. The US has shouldered these violations due to its failure to call out Israel on its gross violations of human rights.

The US must end its hypocrisy and stop abetting Israel's very obvious practices of apartheid. Join us in taking a stand by calling on your members of Congress to show the same moral stand with the Palestinian people that has been shown to Ukraine and other oppressed peoples.

Thank you for taking a stand for Palestine, we won’t stop until it’s free.

Sincerely,
Americans for Justice in Palestine Action
