These past few weeks have been busy, team.

I’ve been all over Virginia. I made it down to Richmond to announce $5 million in federal funds to replace the Mayo Bridge, one of 700 bridges across Virginia that is designated structurally deficient. And just this week I was in Fairfax County to deliver crucial funding that will help the county build up to 250 affordable homes.

I watched with immense pride as Judge Kentanji Brown Jackson wowed the Senate Judiciary Committee during her confirmation hearings. Then I had the honor of casting my vote to confirm her as the first Black woman ever to sit on the Supreme Court.

And I introduced bills in the Senate that would promote lifelong learning for workers, and create more transparency and accountability in the Opportunity Zones program.

Each moment reminded me what being a Senator is all about. You sent me to Washington to improve lives and to protect our country, and it’s an honor to be able to do that.

But I’ll be honest, these past few weeks would have been different if we didn’t have a majority in the Senate. I always look for ways to find bipartisan common ground, but I’m also a realist.

For one thing, soon-to-be Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson would have been rejected outright by a GOP Senate.

We also would have faced much more of an uphill battle finding consensus on the bipartisan infrastructure bill that brought new federal funds to Richmond for that bridge, and the funding for those new affordable homes.

And frankly we’d have little hope of making any meaningful progress on the education or economic reform legislation I’m pushing if the GOP had the majority.

That’s why I need you to donate before midnight tonight. What we raise in the month of April will determine how we protect our majority this year. Chip in $5 now. [link removed]

There is so much work to be done, and it’s work we simply cannot do if we are in the minority. I hope you’ll give now.

Thank you,

Mark
