Dear John, A new article finds that prior to a 2019 rule by the Trump-Pence administration, Title X improved access to effective contraception in US safety-net clinics.
Title X And Contraception Access
In this month's issue of Health Affairs, Blair Darney and coauthors indicate that community health center clinics that received Title X funding provided access to the most effective forms of contraception at about a
fifty percent higher rate than clinics that did not receive Title X funding. Title X clinics had the highest rates of most-effective method provision among young adults and adolescents 2016-18, the authors report.
This data is from before enactment of a 2019 rule in which the Trump-Pence administration weakened the Title X program by implementing non-evidence-based guidelines, including removal of the requirement to provide a full range of FDA- approved contraceptive methods.
“Strengthening Title X should continue to be a national health policy priority,” state Darney and coauthors.
