John, attacks from Republicans on our fundamental rights are often not a surprise – we know the warning signs and can see where the smoke is coming from.
That’s why we wanted to alert you to what’s happening in Texas, where 24,000 mail-in ballots have been rejected in the recent party primary election following new discriminatory and confusing ID requirements, often referred to as “Jim Crow 2.0”. That’s 1 in 8 ballots.
According to the 2020 Census, people of color make up 95% of Texas’ population growth – especially in urban areas. Extreme gerrymandering and new voter suppression laws take aim at disenfranchising Black and POC populations, women, disabled, and senior voters in order to rig elections in the favor of the GOP.
As we see coordinated efforts by conservative state legislatures across the country to pass the most restrictive voting rights legislation in recent years, directly impacting women, people of color, and working-class folks, it is clear that we must fight back with full force.
A little over a year ago, our country was in direct danger of falling to white supremacist fascism under Donald Trump and his Republican enablers. But we came together and fought back and were able to secure the Senate and House.
If we allow voter suppression laws to keep turning up across the country, what is happening in Texas will become a national reality and we won’t have another chance to fight back – we must activate and organize. Will you contribute to our organizing programs which train, mobilize and educate Women’s Marchers across the nation to protect our democracy?
John, you don’t have to be a meteorologist to see which way the wind blows. Women’s March will be ready to defend our feminist future, not matter what they try next.
In solidarity,
Women’s March
