Welcome to our special edition of the Resistance Roundup! In case you missed it, we hosted the New American Hero Awards and Power and Policy national summit last week, bringing together the ever-expanding NAL family of alumni, elected officials, and friends from all across the country.

We've pulled together some of our favorite highlights to bring you up to speed (and assuage your FOMO if you couldn't make it!) but we'd love to hear from you about your favorite moments! Drop us a line on social media using #NAHA2019 and #NewAmericanAgenda to keep the conversation going.

What. A. Night. The energy and excitement at our 7th annual New American Hero Awards last Thursday couldn't be beat with so many bold leaders and advocates for #PeopleLikeUs in the same room to celebrate our honorees, U.S. Representative Veronica Escobar, Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran, and NAL alumna and New York State Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz. We were even joined by special guest U.S. Representative Rashida Tlaib!

Power and
Policy summit

We kicked off Friday with a visit to Capitol Hill before diving into discussions on the policy challenges and systemic barriers facing #PeopleLikeUs at our annual Power and Policy national summit. This year's gathering brought together over 100 New American elected officials and leaders, including our keynote speakers, Aarti Shahani and Stacey Abrams, and guests, U.S. Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Rashida Tlaib

These two events left us feeling inspired, empowered, and supported by the amazing network of leaders—people like you—who are doing such incredible work to create a democracy that works for all of us. Thanks for all you do and for making these events so powerful!

NAL News
And Updates

#PeopleLikeUs have known that we have the power to swing elections for years. Now we have the data to prove it! Earlier this week, Politico reported on our new research showing that New Americans make up the margin of victory in swing states like Arizona, Georgia, and Michigan. Remember, #PeopleLikeUs are powerful and have the ability to shake up the status quo and create a democracy that represents and works for all of us in 2020 and beyond!

MUST-WATCH: Earlier today, our founder and president Sayu Bhojwani went on MSNBC and spoke with anchor Ali Velshi about our new research and the impact New American voters will have on the 2020 election. Watch the segment here!

We'll be taking a break from the Resistance Roundup next week for the Thanksgiving holiday so be sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for the latest updates and news!

👋 Hey there! If you have any feedback about this newsletter and how we can make it better, please leave it in this Google form. We're always looking to improve!

Shout-outs

This week, we want to give a shout-out to:

  • Vanessa García Polanco (Ready to Lead Michigan 2019 and Campaign Leader from Ready to Win 2019), who was recently named a James Beard Foundation National Scholar.
  • Antonio Valdovinos (Ready to Lead Arizona 2015), who was recently named as one of the sharpest political and industry minds under 40 by the Arizona Capitol Times.

Do you want to give someone a shout-out? Just send it to us via email or tag us on Instagram or Twitter (both @newamericanld) so we can repost and include it in the next Resistance Roundup!

Tweet of the week

Help fight systemic white supremacy by supporting our mission to get more women, immigrants, and underrepresented Americans on the ballot and into power.
Every week, we deliver one key positive story to warm your heart, a negative story to keep you vigilant, and an action you can take to help build a more progressive, representative democracy.
