Join the Public Transit Public Good Coalition and Transit Is Essential for an in-person press conference. Riders, MBTA workers, and transit advocates will be joined by elected officials, including City of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu! United in our support for affordable transit at the MBTA and RTAs, we are calling on Beacon Hill and the MBTA to make reduced fares a reality for riders who are struggling to get by.

Care That Works Pilot program to be featured in United States Department of Labor Webinar
On April 26, the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau and the Worker Institute at Cornell will be holding a webinar to explore the intersection of equity and the child care economy, and to reimagine a child care system that meets the needs of families, while treating child care workers with dignity.
We are excited to announce that the Care That Works pilot program will be highlighted during this discussion to uplift innovative and existing models of practice from around the United States and showcase how local and state actors have successfully implemented equity and job creation.

MassCOSH: Workers' Memorial Day
Join MassCOSH, workers, families and advocates for a day of remembrance, healing, and action. On April 28, we will honor workers who were killed, injured, or suffered from illness on the job and press for strong workplace health and safety protections for all workers so that one day this event will no longer be needed.

Op-ed: MBTA riders need a low-income fare
Darlene Lombos, Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Greater Boston Labor Council and Mela Bush-Miles, Transit-Oriented Development Director of Alternatives for Community and Environment, penned an op-ed in response to a public hearing proposal to implement an extra $3 surcharge on Charlie Cards. Authors emphasize the damaging implications that this policy will have for riders who rely on public transportation the most.
“We need a low-income transit fare in Boston. However, new proposed changes to fare collection would lead us in the opposite direction — away from greater equity and towards a less accessible transportation system, harming the very riders that need it most…”
“...A low-income fare is within reach. If the MBTA is serious about equity and about meeting the needs of riders, the board and executives will not approve a new Charlie Card fee before a plan for a low-income fare is firmly in place.”
