Dear John,

Last week, we celebrated with unbridled joy as the  first Black woman and first public defender was confirmed to the Supreme Court. We are thrilled that Kentaji Brown Jackson's confirmation is a step towards making our justice system one that respects and reflects every kind of American.

But while we celebrate Judge Jackson’s confirmation, we are reminded that we still have a hostile conservative majority on the Supreme Court.

SCOTUS has failed to stop horrific anti-abortion laws passed in Texas and Oklahoma, and thousands of people in those states have had to cross state lines to obtain an abortion. Now more than ever, Republicans are emboldened to create insidious abortion bans, which are spreading with copycat legislation in states across the country.

That’s why we’re asking you to step up right now and donate $20.22 to help us get more Democrats elected at the state level in 2022.

We don't have to wait to protect our rights—building progressive majorities in state legislatures can stop laws like this from being enacted in the first place. State legislators in Democratic-majority chambers are stepping up and enacting protections, so everyone can receive the abortion care they need.

Electing Democrats who will counteract a hostile Supreme Court will take all of us working together. States are our last bastion of defense, and our best hope for advancing progressive policy.
