Case for Leandro Plan Heard in Court This Week The Leandro plan was heard yet again in court on Wednesday. The Leandro plan and the fight for funding so every public school student can have a basic and sound education has been in motion since 1994.
Public Education in NC has been defunded for about 30 years now and last November a judge finally ruled that the NC Legislature had to fund public education for $1.75 billion dollars. An appeal was quickly filed and Chief Justice Newby replaced Judge W. David Lee, the judge that made the ruling in November, with Judge Michael Robinson. Judge Robinson will decide whether to or how to amend Judge Lee's decision before sending it back to the State Supreme Court.
