He is risen! |
Dear Subscribers to Washington Weekly: Good Friday is so-called not to glorify crucifixion but to adore and bless Jesus for his sacrifice, by which he redeemed the world. Jesus "humbled himself, becoming obedient to death, even death on a cross" (Phil 2:8). When Jesus rises from the dead on Easter morning, we see the cross in the light of the resurrection: The cross is the means of our redemption and the sign of Jesus' indivisible love for God the Father and for humanity (Veritatis splendor, n. 14). With St. Paul, we can proclaim: "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting? ...Thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ" (1 Cor 15:55, 57). As we honor Christ's sacrifice and celebrate the redemption and promise of Easter, may we anticipate the glory of Heaven by our work to renew and restore God's creation and his people.
Happy Easter to you and your families! |
