In 1968, one of the most influential pieces of legislation in our country’s history was signed into law to end unjust discrimination on the basis of race, gender, sex, national origin, religion, disability, or familial status.
Sadly, nearly 54 years later, the fight for equal protection under the law continues. Day in and day out, Republican lawmakers and officials have shown the American people that – from civil rights to voting rights, women’s rights to workers’ rights and more – they are focused on rolling back rather than advancing fundamental protections.
And to achieve these goals, Republican lawmakers have launched an all out assault at the ballot box. In both state legislatures and in D.C., Republicans are chipping away at Americans’ voting rights – to make voting less accessible to millions nationwide – in order to secure wins up and down the ticket.
It is crystal clear – if we want a healthy democracy, we must ensure that all who are eligible to vote can do so freely and securely.

And to fully reaffirm the Civil Rights Act of 1968, we need the participation of advocates on the ground. Here in Pennsylvania, we’ve got a robust network of NAACP chapters that refuses to let up in these most important fights to ensure everyone has the right to use their voice and cast a vote.
