Hi,

**CONFIDENTIAL: This is sensitive information that the Starbucks workers have asked us not to make public until tomorrow (Friday, 4/15) AM. However, they gave us the green light to alert SDSA members and supporters Thursday evening.  Please do not post on social media about the contents of this email.**

Seattle Starbucks workers are going on STRIKE at two locations starting this Friday and have asked for SDSA members’ support on the picket lines!  They are striking against unfair labor practices and Starbucks union-busting.  There is a very real possibility that some of the Starbucks workers could get fired or face retribution for striking, however a robust outpouring of support from the community can help stay the hand of Starbucks from retaliating. Your help is needed!

The two locations striking are the 5th and Pike and Eastlake stores.  The Starbucks store on Eastlake will strike for 1 day, this Friday (4/15), from 6am - 3pm, and the 5th and Pike store will strike for at least 3 days starting this Friday at 7am.  The 5th and Pike store strike picket will also be held on Saturday and Sunday starting at 9am.

Join a picket!

While we want to make sure members attend both picket lines throughout the weekend, SDSA’s Starbucks Workers Solidarity campaign is asking members to prioritize attending the
Weekend of 500 Posters this Saturday at 4pm at Cal Anderson Park, next to the fountain. Please RSVP to the Weekend of 500 Posters
. We’ll hear from Starbucks workers and Stephanie Gallardo before we head out to plaster the city with 500 Starbucks Workers Solidarity posters.

The Starbucks workers are striking over unfair labor practices by Starbucks:

  • Unsafe/inadequate staffing levels

  • We want Starbucks to put an end to their union busting tactics

  • We want back the labor hours that were taken away to support proper staffing

  • Stop unevenly enforcing policies, and selectively disciplining certain partners

  • End the investigation of one of our partners, Lindsey Price (Eastlake)

  • Replace our alarm system/alarm system protocols to make sure that law enforcement and/or Starbucks management is notified every time the alarm is tripped to ensure partner safety following overnight break-ins.

  • Demand that management respect partner situations concerning mental health

  • Honour past policy/availability agreements and provide us with clear expectations moving forward

  • Stop threatening termination over unclear/unenforced/newly written policies and provide us with in depth policy trainings

See you on the picket line!
