Keeping Illegal Drugs out of Hoosier Communities

Currently, the United States Coast Guard has information on over 80 percent of drugs being smuggled into the United States from South America, but it only has the ability to intercept less than 10 percent. That’s why I helped introduce a bill that would provide the Coast Guard with the tools necessary to intercept illegal drugs and keep them out of Hoosier communities. Learn more here

Disabled Veterans Deserve a Break in TSA Screening

I wrote an op-ed for the Fort Wayne Journal Gazette last week that outlines the need for my Veterans Expedited TSA Screening (VETS) Safe Travel Act. This bipartisan legislation would provide disabled veterans TSA PreCheck at no cost. I was shocked to learn about the conditions disabled veterans face when traveling by air throughout our country. With more than 300,000 disabled servicemen and women living in the United States, this legislation cannot wait. Read my op-ed here

Bipartisan Panel on Global Stability

On Thursday, I joined my friend and colleague Senator Chris Coons at Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs for a panel on global fragility. It is said that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and that is the exactly why we introduced the bipartisan Global Fragility Act to make smart, proactive, and strategic investments in fragile states before they become threats to U.S. national security.

Innovative Higher Ed Financing for Student Success

Last week, I introduced a bipartisan bill aimed at easing the financial burdens of students pursuing higher education through income-share agreements (ISAs). I am a firm believer that every American deserves the opportunity to continue their education, and in a world where student loans have the capacity to plague Hoosier for years to come, I am proud to introduce a bill to give students better options without burdening taxpayers. Click here to learn more about how our legislation ensures protections for students and allows ISAs to flourish – all without contributing to our national debt.

Protecting Taxpayers by Stopping Government Bailouts

Hoosiers should not have to bail out fiscally irresponsible cities and states. That’s why I introduced legislation that ensures federal dollars will not be used towards paying state and local governments that have filed bankruptcy or defaulted on its debts. It is unfair for taxpayers to have to clean up the mistakes of local and state governments who have mismanaged their budgets through overspending. Click here to learn more.
