All kids, especially trans kids, deserve to grow up and live in a world that cherishes and supports them, and that includes playing sports. But this week, despite opposition from my Democratic colleagues and myself, Republicans in the General Assembly voted to continue the shameful nationwide trend of attacking trans and non-binary people by passing the radical House Bill 972 banning trans women and girls from sports.
This bill does not represent Pennsylvanians. It is deeply unpopular, but because the gerrymandered Republican majority refuses to take up issues that working Pennsylvanians actually care about, this week we wasted time and tax-payer money debating cruel legislation that I look forward to Governor Wolf vetoing.
86% of trans kids have reported suicidal ideation, so proposing legislation to further marginalize and isolate trans members of our community, rather than uplift them, is a cruel misuse of power that could have deadly consequences.
Pennsylvanians deserve better. Our trans and non-binary communities deserve better. If you're with me, then please add your name in support of Governor Tom Wolf’s veto of this horrid and hurtful legislation.
I’m running to take the fight for the LGBTQ community to our highest office. Thank you for fighting with me,
Brian Sims
