Dear neighbor:

The deadline to file taxes is almost here. Tax Day is this Monday, April 18. Under the American Rescue Plan that Democrats in Congress passed and President Biden signed into law, individuals and families can now benefit from new and expanded tax benefits. Need tips for a smooth filing season? Check out the IRS website for simple steps you can take to help navigate filing your taxes. Already filed? Use this Where’s My Refund tool to check on the status of your refund.

Warning: With tax season in full swing, it’s important to watch out for cyber criminals trying to steal your personal information. Please remember: the IRS will NOT send emails or text messages or leave pre-recorded, urgent messages. If you become aware of a scam, please report it at irs.gov/scams.

This week, the CDC extended the nationwide mask mandate on planes and public transportation to May 3rd, citing the need to assess the impact of the new BA.2 Omicron subvariant that now makes up more than 85% of new cases in the U.S. Read more about the CDC’s decision here.
