Good news, friend: Governor Newsom has proposed investing $37.6 billion in climate solutions over the next five years, the largest climate investment in California history.

Here’s the rub: While unprecedented, this climate investment is nonetheless inadequate. It’s not enough to stop wildfires, transition to a clean energy economy, and avoid burdening our kids with an irreversible climate catastrophe.

Spread across five years in a state budget that ranges between $260-270 billion annually, that historic $37.6 billion investment only amounts to about 2% of the budget!

But time is running out. Firefighters are bravely facing down walls of fire as our forests burn, farmworkers are suffering searing heat while harvesting food for our tables, and kids playing outside are fighting for each breath while choking on pollution.

This is our last and best chance to save California, and we need leaders with climate courage to do so. Lawmakers must invest this year’s record state budget surplus in bold climate solutions to preserve a safe, healthy future for all Californians.
