For Iranian Americans and our allies, standing in solidarity with Iranians who seek to hold their government to account must include holding our own government - the U.S. government - to account.
That is why NIAC and allied organizations like Human Rights Watch have been highlighting the humanitarian impact of sanctions that are preventing medicine and humanitarian goods from reaching Iran. We have worked with lawmakers over the past several weeks on new efforts to demand that the Trump Administration address this issue and that work is now coming to fruition.
Today, Representatives Raul Grijalva, Barbara Lee, and Ilhan Omar are circulating a letter to the Trump Administration calling for a full review of the impact of sanctions on medicine and the mechanisms that allow humanitarian trade. Please join us in encouraging all of our elected Members of Congress to sign onto this letter so that the U.S. is not complicit in violating the human rights of Iranians.

Additionally, I hope that you have signed onto our effort to urge the Treasury Department to lift sanctions that prevent ordinary Iranians from accessing online communications tools and to ensure the U.S. stops serving as an enabler of the shutting down and censorship of the internet for Iranians. You can urge officials to take action on this here [[link removed]] .
Finally, we are also urging universities [[link removed]] to extend their application deadlines for Iranian students who may have been affected by the internet shutdown conducted by Iran's government. We are circulating this as widely as possible - if you have any contacts with university administrators, please share our statement and urge that they implement exceptions for Iranian students.
