J.D. Scholten for Congress
John --

In another corrupt move by the Trump Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency is continuing to put big oil profits ahead of the livelihoods of Iowa’s farmers.

Sign the petition demanding the EPA to uphold the law. We can’t let our farmers and our planet take a back seat to big oil profits.

I’m proud to say that our district, Iowa’s 4th, leads the nation in renewable fuel production, and that here in Iowa, we have 42 ethanol plants.

Renewable fuels must be a part of the transition to a green economy. Scientists have proven that carbon pollution has dangerous effects, and Iowa can -- and must -- lead the charge by supplying our country with a safer alternative.

However, instead of upholding the Renewable Fuel Standard, a law written and passed by Congress, the EPA has padded the bottom lines of big oil companies like Exxon and Chevron. This law has been the most successful clean fuels policy in American history, helping to create rural jobs, reduce oil imports, and protect our environment -- but the EPA is rendering it useless.

They’ve handed out waivers like candy to these big oil companies, allowing them to skirt the law and not blend ethanol into their gasoline.

As a result of these waivers, corn prices in August dropped 10% -- a record low. Ethanol plants have closed or idled. Many have been laid off.

The EPA’s actions are insulting to the millions of farmers working hard to provide for their families, our communities, and our planet.

It also sets back our efforts to reduce carbon outputs. If the EPA continues to provide waivers to oil refineries, they have no incentive to work towards fuel alternatives.

If you agree that the EPA must stand by our farmers and the renewable fuels industry, sign the petition.

Thanks for making your voice heard, John.
