John,

The recent shooting in New York is jarring and quickly reminds us of the importance of gun violence prevention efforts. However, national news can overshadow the fact that here in Durham, NC 11 people were shot and 4 were killed over the past weekend alone. Unlike many diseases and other public health problems, firearm injuries and death are preventable

Today you may be wondering, “what can I do to prevent gun violence here at home?”  We know that education and advocacy are key to preventing gun violence and saving lives. Tragedies like this demonstrate the immediate need to invest in Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs while demanding safer communities from our elected officials.

Make a tax-deductible gift today to the NCGV Education Fund to help us expand our work to educate others and prevent gun violence. Your gift today will help keep our communities safe. Fully-funded, comprehensive community violence interrupter and hospital-based violence intervention programs in communities most impacted are a crucial step. Correctly administered, these programs address both the direct/behavioral and the underlying causes of gun violence.

We also need to make sure that the existing laws in North Carolina stay in place and we elect the right candidates who will fight for safer communities and stricter gun laws. This takes staff on the ground to follow efforts to erode gun safety laws and advocate for change. A donation today to the NCGV Action Fund can help keep our staff funded to stay ready to advocate and respond.

We can’t wait to invest more in this work—the safety of our communities depends on it. We can’t let another tragedy like this occur. Help us prevent gun violence in our communities with a donation to the NCGV Education Fund or NCGV Action Fund today. Your gift of $50, $100, or more will make a difference.

Sincerely,
Becky

P.S. Gifts of $250 or more are recognized as part of our Lisa Price Gun Prevention Circle and monthly giving options help us continue our on the ground efforts everyday. Help us keep NC safe from gun-related violence and deaths.
