Reflecting on My Recent Trip to the Ukraine-Poland Border
During the last week, I went to Eastern Europe to meet with our NATO allies as well as Ukrainian officials. We discussed ways to get more military and and humanitarian relief into Ukraine so they can continue their heroic fight against Putin’s military.
I was part of a bipartisan delegation of Members of Congress who took part in these meetings. We met with the Prime Ministers of Poland and Romania, who both share borders with Ukraine and are actively involved in helping with the relief efforts. We also went to the Ukraine-Poland border and met with some of Ukraine’s military who are helping families flee, while we saw others returning back to their homes.
We met with American troops, including the 82nd Airborne, who are assisting our NATO allies in getting much-needed military supplies to our Ukrainian allies. Our troops are working closely with those of our NATO allies like Poland to demonstrate that any Russian aggression against NATO will be met with a swift and severe response. We also met with Ukrainian officials who shared stories of the war crimes Putin’s army is committing in Ukraine.
While in Poland and Romania, I was able to spend time with soldiers from Louisiana and personally thank them for their service. They’re doing an incredible job assisting NATO’s efforts and supporting the more than 2.5 million Ukrainian refugees who have been forced to resettle in Poland as a result of the conflict.
Polish leaders have done a remarkable job taking care of their neighbors in Ukraine. They have delivered military equipment, opened up their country to those fleeing violence, and stood up to Putin’s tyranny.
It’s critical Ukrainians have the resources necessary to defend their freedom and defeat Putin in this war. China, Iran, and North Korea are watching. The US must continue to provide Ukraine with the military equipment they need to defend themselves while remaining ready to defend American interests around the globe.
It is an honor to represent you in Congress. For more information, please visit my website, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook pages.
