Fastenal earned $269.6 million in the first quarter on net sales of $1.7 billion, with both figures improving from a year ago. The distributor reported gains of 24.6% in overall daily sales and 14.8% in "other product" daily sales, which is Fastenal's largest product segment.
The producer price index rose 1.4% in March on a monthly basis and 11.2% from a year ago, according to the Labor Department. Core PPI, which excludes such categories as energy and food, rose 0.9% for the month and 7% for the year.

Business-to-business buyers overwhelmingly prefer video, according to a recent study by Brightcove and Ascend2, which found that 97% of B2B buyers are more open to being contacted by sales after watching a video and 93% say videos increase their trust in a brand. The study -- which surveyed more than 300 professionals from US and UK firms with annual revenue of at least $50 million -- found 70% of respondents prefer video as their favorite content format, followed by research reports at 44% and webinars at 40%.
